International Biodiversity Congress (IBC)
Uniting People and Science to Protect Biodiversity
The International Biodiversity Congress (IBC) is India’s largest and most inclusive scientific and civil society gathering focused on biodiversity conservation. Organized by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), IBC serves as a collaborative platform where scientists, environmentalists, policymakers, NGOs, civil society groups, and indigenous communities come together to reimagine a sustainable and biodiversity-rich future.
IBC is driven by the need to protect Earth’s rich biological heritage in the face of unsustainable development, climate change, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss.
Vision and Goals
- Advocate for conservation-focused development that respects biodiversity
- Build consensus on the state of biodiversity in India and globally
- Support community-based conservation and traditional ecological knowledge
- Mobilize youth and grassroots action to protect biodiversity
- Sensitize the public to the relevance of preventive and holistic healthcare
Background & Significance
Biological diversity is the web of life — the very foundation of our ecosystems, food systems, medicine, economy, and culture. Yet, this web is being torn apart by human activities.
Recognizing this urgency, IBC aligns with the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity (2011–2020) and contributes to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
